BASEBALL FAQ'S

How long is the season?

The regular baseball season runs from mid to late April, weather permitting, to the end of June. League games usually start in May.

At the coach's discretion, some teams may choose to start indoor practices earlier in the season.

For U11 and older age groups participating in Baseball Alberta's Provincial competition, the season extends into July.

Practices and games:

Baseball practices and league games are usually held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, although these dates are subject to change depending on diamond availability and game schedules.

Practice schedules will be announced mid-late April.

What equipment does my child need to play baseball?

  • BATTING HELMET: Each player should have their own batting helmet. Although we do have some extra helmets available for younger players to share, we recommend players bring/use their own helmet for hygienic reasons.
  • BAT: Team bats will be provided by Sedgewick Minor Ball for younger age divisions. 11U+ players are generally expected to provide their own bat.
  • BALL GLOVE
  • FOOTWEAR: Cleats are not required for 9U baseball - outdoor running shoes with good foot support are sufficient. However cleats are recommended for 11U+ age groups.
  • TEAM UNIFORMS: Player jerseys are provided by Sedgewick Minor Ball each season. Player families are responsible for purchasing their own ball cap, pants (black), belt (red), and game socks (red).
  • APPAREL: Ball caps and other Sedgewick Minor Ball apparel can be ordered by each team individually and through our association's spring apparel order.

Sedgewick Minor Ball Cash Raffle - Annual Fundraiser

Each family of Sedgewick Minor Ball agrees to provide a Fundraising Commitment cheque or E-transfer for our annual cash raffle fundraiser. The quantity and value of tickets each family will be asked to sell is determined on a season-by-season basis. For the 2025 season, the fundraising commitment was 20 tickets x $10/ticket ($200 total).

SMB's Treasurer will collect fundraising commitment monies and team managers will distribute raffle tickets later in the season.
